March 2015
Speaking of leaving, it’s looking like a late August departure for me. That will be just over 21 months here by the time I leave – please don’t ask me what I’ll do when I get back! I think I’ve earned a month or two holiday to begin with… after that, who knows!
I still haven’t received mail, if you send something down it will probably be on the next Pharos. Given it’s a fisheries patrol vessel I’m not allowed to talk about dates as potential poachers might be reading this! Having said that we should have our next post by the end of next month.
Finally… Some new people subscribed last month (thanks!), a number of them mentioned a particular person when filling out the ‘interests’ box. I believe it was The Kinks who sang ‘Give the people what they want’. Who am I to argue with that…
Regular readers will remember a brass device that lives behind the bar. It has caught out just about everyone who’s attempted to blow into it to spin the Catherine-wheel on top. Blow correctly and it spins, blow incorrectly and you get a face (mainly the eyes) full of talcum powder. It has made a fool of Captains of Navy warships, senior management from the UK’s Foreign and Comonwealth Office and just about anyone who’s spent more that a few days at KEP (me included) over the last 6 years or so.

HI Matt, some great photos. I am laid up at the moment with Achilles’ rupture. Playing Volleyball with the OP guys. Still meansI am having an enforced rest. Be good to see you when you come back.
Cheers
Dave
Hi Dave, not so good about the Achilles’, hope you have a speedy recovery. I’ll drop in for a coffee or join you on a hill day when I’m back – looking forward to doing hills that aren’t covered in scree!
Hi Matt, thank you for tagging our good friend Emma in your blog as we get to see and hear about her new adventures, our two girls love all the pictures but the last series of photos are very typical Emma and we are still laughing here as we can truthfully say yes this is definitely her!

Hello, glad the pictures are going down well! It took a month or two before we really got to see the real Emma, worth the wait though! She told me about the bike incident years ago which I think you were witnesses of – I’m beginning to understand it’s worth keeping the camera in hand whenever she’s about 🙂 Cheers, Matthew.
Matthew! This is very true and thank you so much for the wonderful photos both of more general wildlife and emma!! they truly do encompass her nature and all of the wonderfulness that is emma browne 🙂
Hope you’re enjoying having her aboard.

Matthew, I sincerely hope that poo-pipe is made from chocolate! The answer to what you will be doing when you come home is, I hope, that you will take up residence in your mother’s spare room so that she can re-socialise you?
Mum in Edinburgh
Mum in Edinburgh (Do I have others elsewhere?) I think the poo-pipe was actually made from toilet roll cardboard! Very apt. It’s tradition that returning Antarctic heroes are waited on hand and foot for at least a month after their return. So if you don’t have a butler you’d better get some practice in.
